My name is Adam Ohashi and this is my professional portfolio. I began my architectural career working for my parents’ firm in Emeryville, CA. There I learned the basics of architectural drafting and design though, at the time, I did not have a degree in the field. The projects focused on high end custom single family homes with a contemporary design aesthetic. After four years and many projects, I decided to move on to a different kind of firm in Lafayette, CA. I joined a design-build firm which had both an office design team and a thirty person field crew. Here I learned the basics of project estimation, scheduling, product specifications, and cabinetry. I learned from the field crew the importance of building techniques and craftsmanship and that’s what propelled me to enroll in a Masters of Architecture program at the University of Oregon.
The program at the School of Architecture + Environment focuses heavily on constructability and sustainability. Here I learned the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical, and structural design as well as I earned my credentials in Passive House design all while tackling studio design challenges. After graduating I found myself leaning toward affordable housing and joined a firm in Pleasanton, CA that has a large hand in the local affordable housing market sector.
My design philosophy consists of wholistic building systems thinking with a focus on doing good for society and the planet. My nearterm goal is to learn how to develop and manage a project with the eventual goal of developing my own real estate projects.
